THE HATCHET'S 2015 BEST OF NORTHWEST

Jetties

BEST PLACE ON GWORLD

Location: 1921 I St. NW

Runners up: Froggy Bottom Pub, Foggy Bottom Grocery

At about 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoons, you’ll most likely find me walking into Jetties on I Street, where my favorite sandwich, the Nobadeer, awaits my order. The Nobadeer is a Jetties staple, bringing Thanksgiving to me once a week, every week for most of this year. Roasted turkey, combined with mayonnaise, stuffing and cranberry sauce served on sourdough bread, is truly the light at the end of an otherwise gloomy, dark and damp tunnel that is an early afternoon spent hungover.

White and black checkered tiles mark the path to the counter of the popular sandwich spot, which I’m sure offers many other delicious options between $8 and $10 (the Surfside is a viable alternative, with bacon, turkey, avocado, havarti cheese and mustard), but the Nobadeer will always have a special place in my heart.

If I’m not as hungry, which is never, I’ll pick up a small New England clam chowder ($4) or a Sanford Farm salad, which includes pears, blue cheese crumbles and candied pecans with balsamic vinaigrette ($9).
